Through the Microsoft Active Directory System you can create users and groups on your Server based network and set permissions for access to files and folders within the server. This gives you control of the network and your users, segragating confidential files from common files, accounts spreadsheets from customer records and HR records from supplier letters.
Microsoft Exchange Server is also included, this is a powerfull email mesaging server, that centrally stores all users mailboxes. It also allows users (depending on rights) access to each others mailboxes which can include email, calendars, task lists and contacts. Group Folders can also be setup which can be seen company wide, essential for meeting rooms where you can have a set meeting room calendar.
Centralised file storage upon the server enables single point of data storage. No longer will files be strewn across the network in multiple locations of which you are not sure if they are being backed up or not. Add a tape backup device and backup software and you have a disaster recovery solution for your small business. We can even add an online backup service for your mission critical application data like CRM, Accounts, etc.
Shared Fax is also built in, just a fax modem is needed in the server and then all users will be able to fax from the desktop, faxes can also be revieved into a shared email folder that can then be viewed by everyone via their Microsoft Outlook client. A great paper saving solution as well.
Microsoft SQL Server is included when you purchase the Premium Edition of Microsoft Small Business Server, this again is a great cost saving over implementing individual server products. SQL is often needed for backoffice databases, for example SAP Businees One.
