Avaya Definity
Avaya Definity: a type of Avaya phone system hardware, now relabelled as Avaya Communications Manager.
Avaya Definity servers and switches can be upgraded to use Avaya Communications Manager features by adding a Media Server into the Definity switch. With more than 700+ telephony features, the Avaya Communications Manager has one of the largest feature-sets compared to Nortel Meridian, NEC NEAX or Cisco CallManager.
Other Avaya Definity changes include the operating system, SIP and the most advanced telephony feature-set in telephony. Avaya Definity servers used the Oryx/Pecos proprietary operating system, whereas Avaya Communications Manager servers now use Linux. In the Avaya Communications Manager, all endpoints now run on SIP, regardless of the telephone's protocols.
So, whilst Avaya Definity systems upgraded to Communications Manager retain the best features from the older system, they now also support new 21st century features such as IP Telephony, mobility and unified messaging.
The Avaya Definity upgrade to Avaya Communications Manager is clearly designed for large multisite companies and organisations.
